Membrane switch is an operating system integrating key functions, indicating elements and instrument panel. It consists of four parts: panel, upper circuit, isolation layer and lower circuit. When the membrane switch is pressed, the contact of the upper circuit deforms downward and contacts the board of the lower circuit. After the finger is released, the upper circuit contact bounces back, the circuit is disconnected and the circuit triggers the signal. The membrane switch has rigorous structure, beautiful appearance and good air tightness. It has the characteristics of long service life. It is widely used in electronic communication, electronic measuring instruments, industrial control, automobile industry, intelligent toys, household appliances and other fields.

The plastic substrate of 0.25mm and below is called film, which is mainly used as the panel layer of film switch. Various indicative patterns and words are printed on the back to indicate the operation area corresponding to the key opening position. The thickness shall be selected according to the size of the panel and keys. The material is thick, the touch is increased and the response is slow; The material is too thin, feels poor, and the rebound is not obvious. The thickness above 0.25mm is called sheet, which is not suitable for three-dimensional key forming. It can be used as an indicator panel without key operation area or as a lining plate of membrane switch to improve its hardness.
